Outdoor Classroom

Camp Initiative

A recent survey of the hikers that use our Groton Trail System informed us that many would like more areas for resting.  We would like to help meet this demand.  This camp will expose young participants to the beauty of the outdoors.  We will construct benches and outdoor classrooms along the trails for the week.  We will use primarily the materials that we can find in the wooded areas along the trails.

Learning & Outcomes

Campers will learn about which materials have a structural integrity that will allow what we make to last.

Campers will learn how to build the structures with an integrity that will help them remain together over time.

Campers will have an opportunity to design their own structures.

Campers will take pride as they hike these trails in the future knowing that they contributed to the construction of each of the areas/ structures that we will complete.

Safety: 
Campers attending this camp must be conscious of safety for themselves and for others. Reckless behavior can not be tolerated. Tools will be used, but only the instructor will use a chainsaw. Safe use of and around those tools is a must.
